HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's track and field team opened it's indoor season at Villanova's Jack Pyrah Invitational hosted at Haverford College on Saturday, December 7. The meet featured five other area schools, Franklin & Marshall, Widener, Haverford, LaSalle, Temple and host Villanova.
Sophomore Katie Jo McMenamin, a top returning mid-distance runner for the Garnet, covered the mile run in 5:05.99 for first overall among a field of 16. Teammates also in that event were Sarah Nielsen '16 (5:21.37), Indy Reid-Shaw '17 (5:29.32) and Zoe Cina-Sklar '15 (5:56.14).
In the 800-meter run junior Liz Tawa nearly set a personal-best mark with her 2:26.64 finish, good for third place. Classmate Katie Lin finished at 2:30.85 for seventh overall. Sophomore Jenna Cody recorded an 18:25.17 mark in the 5,000-meter distance.
The 4x400-meter relay legs of McMenamin, Julie Nee, Katie Lin and Nielsen crossed the finish at 4:16.62.
In her collegiate debut, Lulu Allen Waller recorded a 9.96 finish in the 60-meter hurdles event.
Swarthmore will take a final exam and winter break reprieve and resume action in 2014 with the NYC Gotham Cup on January 14.
