Diversity & Equity

OUR VALUES

Diversity, equity and inclusive excellence are about understanding multiple identities through the lens of social justice education, ally development, and identity development. We embrace the intersectionality of race/ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ability, age, national origin, and religious/spiritual identities and the ways in which those identities move us to greater connection and communication - particularly through sport. Swarthmore College has a history of commitment to educating all students to reach their highest potential. A welcoming environment is a vital component of that commitment. Providing faculty, staff, and students with information, support, and resources around diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence is an important step in assuring welcoming, caring, respectful and affirming environments for all students.

Engagement in physical education, varsity, and recreational athletics are also an integral part of a comprehensive education experience. As such, the College is committed to providing equal opportunity all student, faculty, and staff students as they seek avenues for sports participation.

This page will highlight a number of resources, policies, and systems designed to support Inclusive Excellence in athletics.  Questions about any information on this page can be directed to: Val Gómez, Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator/Title IX Deputy, vgomez1@swarthmore.edu, (610) 328-8222.
