Morris-Kliment Captures Discus Title to Highlight Day Two at Centennial Championships

GETTYSBURG, PA. - The Swarthmore College women's track & field team continued its dominance in the discus throw to headline the second day of the Centennial Championships on Saturday. The Garnet have won gold in the event for four-straight seasons.

Lydia Morris-Kliment captured her second-career conference championship in the discus throw. The junior medaled in the event for the third time, while returning to the top of the podium this season. Swarthmore has won the discus seven times in program history, passing Gettysburg College for the most of any school in conference history.

Swarthmore picked up its second medal of the day with bronze in the 4x800m relay. The team of Rica Eleches-Lipsitz, Olivia Montini, Ania Wong and Elizabeth Page finished behind Johns Hopkins and Haverford to earn a spot on the podium. 

The Garnet sit in third overall as a team with 34 points. Johns Hopkins leads the meet with 136 points. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morris-Kliment won the discus throw with a season-best distance of 43.47m. The junior was in third overall before unleashing a championship-clinching throw on her final attempt. She currently ranks 32nd in the nation in the event. Briana Eugene (38.88m) and Tate Garcia (38.65m) also scored points in the event, placing sixth and seventh, respectively. 

- The 4x800m relay earned bronze for the Garnet. The team of Eleches-Lipsitz, Montini, Wong and Page crossed the finish line at 9:32.27 to grab third overall. Swarthmore comfortably took home bronze, outperforming its nearest competitor by 16 seconds. 

- Kate Reiter finished fifth in the heptathlon with 3,652 points. Her afternoon was headlined by a third-place result in the long jump, recording a top distance of 4.80m. 

- Hannah Swale and Caroline Hill were both point scorers in the high jump. Swale was fifth at a season-best of 1.52m, while the junior followed in sixth at 1.47m. 

- Gabby Bredbenner was sixth overall in the 400m prelims, earning a spot in tomorrow's finals. The rookie raced to a personal best of 59.25. 

- Hill qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles. The junior grabbed the final spot in tomorrow's event with a time of 16.85. The result marked a season-best for Hill. 

- Hannah Garrou just missed out on qualifying for the 200m finals. The senior placed ninth with a 27.00 effort, while Bredbenner followed in 11th at 27.05. 

- Rebekah Gendler placed 10th overall in the long jump with a top effort of 4.88m.
