FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's golf team sits seventh out of 10 teams after Friday's opening round of the Gettysburg Spring Shootout. The Garnet carded a 312 as a team, just four strokes outside of the top-five with one round to play. 

Yuxuan Wang led the way for the Garnet with a four-over-par 76. The sophomore standout heads into Saturday's final round tied for 14th place on the individual leaderboard.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wang opened the tournament with a 76 (+4). After shooting three-over on the front nine, the sophomore jump-started the back nine with an eagle on the par-five 10th hole. However, he ran into trouble down the stretch, recording bogeys on three of his final five holes. Wang currently sits in 14th place overall, just two strokes outside the top 10.

- Andy Xin finished the opening round tied for 18th place with a 77 (+5). The junior got off to a strong start, shooting one-under with a pair of birdies on the front nine. However, he struggled on the back nine, carding six bogeys to close out the round. 

- Dylan Zhang wrapped up the opening round with a 78 (+6), placing 23rd overall. The junior recorded a pair of birdies on the front nine but was unable to continue his momentum down the stretch.

- Judah Fulchiero carded an 81 (+9) in the opening round at 34th overall. The first-year got off to a slow start but finished strong, tallying four birdies on the back nine.

- Max Ash closed out the afternoon with an 83 (+11), placing 42nd overall. He recorded two birdies on the day.
