Garcia wins the discus throw at Widener

Women's Track & Field

Throwers Lead the Way at Danny Curran Opener

CHESTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's track and field team had an impressive showing on the opening night of the Danny Curran Invitational on Friday.

The throwers led the way, earning four top-three finishes across two events. Tate Garcia and Lydia Morris-Kliment finished first and second in the discus throw, while Garcia and Lee Bickford tied for second in the shot put.

Olivia Montini also highlighted the action on the track with a top-10 finish in the 5000m run.



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Garcia won the discus throw with a personal record of 40.48m. The junior recorded her first career mark over 40.00m. Morris-Kliment followed up her teammate's mark with a distance of 40.38m to finish a close second.  

- Throws continued to represent with another strong performance in shot put. Garcia and Bickford both tied for second in the event with a 11.77m throw. Jordyn Bernard took 11th overall with a top mark of 10.95m. 

- Montini placed 10th overall in the 5000m run. The junior crossed the finish line at 18:12.24 to finish towards the top of a crowded field of runners.
