LANCASTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's indoor track & field team finished strong at the Centennial Championships on Sunday, earning two golds and three total medals on the way to third place with 73 points.
Trel Trelstad and
Tate Garcia led the way with victories in the high jump and shot put respectively. It was the first indoor conference title for both athletes.
Ania Wong garnered a bronze medal in the 800 meters to finish her first conference meet with three medals after claiming two relay silvers on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trelstad took the high jump crown with a leap of 5' 2.5" (1.59m). They were the only competitor to clear the height and they did it on their first attempt. It was the first indoor title for the former outdoor champion. Trelstad's performance led a strong Garnet showing in the event with
Caroline Hill,
Hannah Swale, and
Anna Savolainen finishing fourth (5' 0.5", 1.54m), tied for fifth (4' 10.5", 1.49m), and ninth (4' 6.75", 1.39m) respectively. Hill's mark was a personal best.
- Garcia was victorious in the shot put with a toss of 44' 0.5" (13.42m), surpassing the second-place finisher by just six inches. The junior now holds both the indoor and outdoor conference titles. Swarthmore had a solid contingent in the event with
Lee Bickford, Swale, and
Jordyn Bernard coming in fourth (38' 5", 11.71m), seventh (37' 5.25", 11.41m), and 11
th (35' 1.75", 10.71m) place respectively. It was a career best for Bickford who missed the podium by just half an inch.
- Wong crossed the line third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.17, only 0.32 seconds off the winning time. Swale raced in the final of the 60 meter hurdles and took seventh place with a personal record of 9.50.

Elizabeth Page narrowly missed out on the scoring in the mile, taking ninth place (5:07.63). Hannah Garou ran a personal best in the 400 meters and finished 10
th (1:02.83). The 4x400 meter relay of Garrou,
Kiara Pedra,
Lucy Valencia, and
Morgan Mouer was ninth (4:22.88).
