Swale competes in 60m hurdles at championships

Women’s Track & Field Earns Four Medals, Sits in Third Overall at CC Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's track & field team combined for four medals on the opening day of the Centennial Conference Championships. The Garnet currently sit in third overall with 30 points.

Hannah Swale and Elizabeth Agyei earned individual medals for the Garnet. Swale claimed silver in the pentathlon, while breaking her own program record in the event. Agyei took bronze in the weight throw and set a personal record in the event. 

The Garnet continued its relay success with a pair of silvers in the distance medley relay and the 4x800m relay. Alina Irvine and Ania Wong won a pair of silver medals as members of both relay teams. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swale won silver and toppled her program record in the pentathlon with 3,126 points. The junior won the shot put (11.87), placed second in the high jump (1.53m) and took third in the 60m hurdles (9.55). Swale earned gold in the event the previous two seasons. 

- The 4x800m relay of Olivia Montini, Morgan Mouer, Irvine and Wong took home a silver medal. The team finished one second behind Johns Hopkins with a time of 9:36.62. Swarthmore beat its nearest challenger by three seconds.

- The women's distance medley relay of Wong, Hannah Garrou, Irvine and Elizabeth Page earned silver with a time of 12:23.81. The time is currently the 28th fastest in Division-III this season. 

- Elizabeth Agyei led a trio of personal records in the weight throw. The senior won bronze with a top throw of 15.40m on her final attempt. Lee Bickford just missed out on points with a distance of 13.08 to place ninth, while Vivian Molnar finished 12th at 12.02m. 

- Swale also qualified for the finals with a seventh-place finish in the 60m hurdle prelims. The junior finished at 9.54 to punch her ticket to tomorrow's finals. Swale achieved a personal record by a tenth-of-a-second. Caroline Hill also recorded a personal record with a time of 10.24 to finish 13th overall. 

- Alyson Goldbacher narrowly missed out on earning points with a ninth-place finish in the pole vault. The first-year posted a best mark of 3.02m in her championship debut.

The Garnet return to Franklin & Marshall tomorrow for the final day of the Centennial Championships.
