GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Swarthmore College women's soccer team had six players named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.
Aminah Evans,
Ava Gizzie,
Nicole Jensen,
Celia Kanellakos,
Haley Lewinski, and
Macie Mangini all garnered the award. It was the first career honor for all six student-athletes.
To be eligible for Academic All-District accolades, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, appear in 90 percent of their team's contests or start in at least 66 percent, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. The Academic All-District Team is part of the Academic All-America program, which is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across college sports.
Evans had another standout season on the back line for the Garnet. She helped the squad lead the Centennial Conference in shutout percentage and rank second in goals against average. Swarthmore posted 13 shutouts on the season. Evans was an All-Centennial First Team selection.
Gizzie was the Centennial Offensive Player of the Year and an All-Centennial First Team honoree, posting a career-high 11 goals and 24 points this season. They had a streak of nine consecutive games with a goal this year, tying the program record.
Jensen led the squad with seven assists and added two goals for 11 points. She was chosen to the All-Centennial Second Team.
Kanellakos finished second on the Garnet behind Gizzie in both goals (8) and points (20). She was a member of the All-Centennial First Team.
Lewinski and Mangini both received All-Centennial honorable mention. Mangini produced eight points on three goals and two assists while Lewinski was another key contributor to the Garnet's top-ranked defense. Lewinski was also one of Swarthmore's primary takers on corner kicks and notched four assists.
The group helped the Garnet post a 15-3-5 record and reach the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
