Morris-Kliment Places First, Women's Track & Field Combine for Seven Runner-Up Finishes

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's track & field team wrapped up weekend action at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational and the West Chester Bill Butler Invitational on Saturday. 

Lydia Morris-Kliment headlined a day filled with runner-up finishes as the first-year won the discus throw to claim the team's lone victory. In total, the the Garnet put together seven runner-up finishes on the day. 

Sophie Goodwin competed at both events with a pair of personal records. Goodwin competed in the 3000m steeplechase at Princeton on Friday, while wrapping up her weekend with a runner-up finish in the 800m run at West Chester.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Goodwin took 13th overall in a competitive field of Division-I runners with a time of 11:37.48. The first-year set a personal record by just over one second. 



BILL BUTLER INVITATIONAL 
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Morris-Kliment won the discus throw with a top distance of 40.40m, while Tate Garcia placed second overall in the event at 38.75m. Megan Bickford also threw a personal record in the event with a distance of 28.37.

- Garcia claimed second overall in the shot put with a personal-best of 12.68m, before finishing up her day with a fifth place effort in the hammer throw at 36.92m. Elizabeth Agyei was the runner up in the hammer throw at 40.10m. Bickford also made the finals in the hammer throw with a best effort of 34.06m to take seventh. 

- Olivia Montini and Alina Irvine placed second and third, respectively, in the 1500m run. Montini raced to a time of 4:59.57, while Irvine followed at 5:02.16. 

- Goodwin impressed in the 800m run with a runner-up finish. The first-year set a new personal record in the event with a time of 2:21.52.

- Hannah Swale was the runner-up in the 100m hurdles with a 15.96 mark. Caroline Hill also placed 10th in the event at 18.26.

- Swarthmore's 4x400m relay of Cami Bortz, Miranda Kashynski, Kiara Pedra and Hannah Garrou placed second overall with a mark of 4:15.26.

- Eli Dellinger and Olivia Cloutier both earned personal records in the steeplechase. Dellinger was fifth at 13:34.78, while Cloutier took sixth at 13:37.58.

- Alyssa Zhang recorded a top-10 finish in the long jump. The senior was ninth overall with a top distance of 4.80m.

- Morgan Mouer finished 11th in the 400m run. The junior crossed the finish line at 1:04.55.

The Garnet return to Widener University on Friday and Saturday.
