Women’s Throws Highlights Danny Curran Opening Night

CHESTER, Pa - The Swarthmore College women's track & field team opened action at the two-day Widener University Danny Curran Invitational on Friday night. 

Swarthmore throws headlined the night with gold and silver in the women's discus throw. The reigning Centennial Field Athlete of the Week Lydia Morris-Klement took home first in the event, while Tate Garcia finished as the runner-up. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morris-Klement won the discus with a top throw of 41.30m on her first attempt of the finals. The first-year narrowly missed her personal-best mark, which ranked fifth in the nation last week. Garcia took second with a 39.45m personal-best on her first throw of the evening. 

- Garcia capped off a successful night for throws as she qualified for the shot put finals. The sophomore was fifth overall with a throw of 11.08m. 

- Olivia Montini was 12th in the 5000m run. The sophomore crossed the finish at 18:29.21. Téa Malone-Bonacci took 18th in the event with a 18:57.80 mark.

The Garnet return to action tomorrow at Widener.
