COLLEGEVILLE, PA. - Competing on day two of the Centennial Conference Championships, the Swarthmore women's track & field team posted superb results, including a record setting performance and national best.
Taking on the nine other Centennial squads, the Garnet fielded athletes in twelve events, including: Discus Throw, Long Jump, High Jump, Heptathlon, 3000m Steeplechase, 110m Hurdles, 400m, 100m, 800m, 400m Hurdles, 200m and 4x800m Relay.
With day two coming to a close, the Garnet slot in at third place with a score of 56.5, trailing only Dickinson College and Johns Hopkins University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Field:
- Starting off with the discus throw, Swarthmore saw Garnet athletes finish one and two. Senior
Adria Retter captured first, putting up an unbelievable mark of 51.06m, her second gold of the meet so far. Not only was that performance good enough to shatter the meet, program and conference records, but it was the best throw in all of NCAA DIII competition so far this season, overtaking a mark that Retter herself had set just weeks earlier. First year
Tate Garcia took second with a throw of 37.81m, bringing home the first medal of her Swarthmore career.
- Moving over to jumps, sophomore
Emily Trelstad finished second in the high jump, capturing a silver medal with a mark of 1.55m.
- Representing the Garnet in the Heptathlon, first year
Hannah Swale showed out on the Centennial stage, finishing second in the long jump at 4.79m, second in the javelin throw at 30.75m, and sixth in the 800m at 2:43.34. Overall, Swale placed third in the event, taking home bronze.
Track:
- Taking her talents to the track for the 100mH prelims, Swale placed 5th with a time of 16.09 seconds, good enough to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
- Beating out 23 other runners, senior
Krystle Boadi finished first overall in the 100m prelims, putting up a time of 12.49 seconds and qualifying for tomorrow's final. Boadi also finished second in 200m prelim, qualifying for the final with a mark of 25.62 seconds.
- Senior
Rose Teszler placed fourth in the prelims of the 800m, crossing the finish line at 2:16.33 and qualifying for tomorrow's final.
- The Garnet finished first overall in the 4x800m Relay, as the quartet of sophomore
Morgan Mouer, senior
Quinn Basewitz, sophomore Alana Irvine and Teszler took home the gold with their time of 9:16.07.
