Teszler Headlines Widener Invite with Record Breaking Performance

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's track & field team claimed fifth overall out of 23 teams at the Widener Invite on Saturday.

Rose Teszler headlined the day with a record breaking performance in the 800m run. The senior bested a decade-long record in the event with a time of 2:10.61 to finish first overall in the event. Rebecca Hammond set the previous record with a time of 2:12.48 in 2013.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Teszler added another milestone to her remarkable career by capturing the program record in the 800m run. The senior claimed the top spot in the event with a program record of 2:10.61. She currently ranks fourth in the nation in the event. 

- After grabbing first in the discus and second in the shot put on Friday, Adria Retter ended her weekend with a second place effort in the hammer throw with a best of 48.74m. 

- Jill Provaznik placed fifth in the javelin throw with a top distance of 33.79m. She earned points for the Garnet and recorded a throw above 30.00m on all six attempts.

- Alina Irvine earned a top-20 finish in the 800m run with a new personal record of 2:17.07. Quinn Basewitz, Johanna Schubert, Olivia Montini, Charisma Hasan and Allison Shan also posted personal bests in the race. 

- Hannah Swale grabbed a pair of top-five finishes on the weekend. The first-year standout grabbed fifth in the 100m hurdles (16.37) today and was sixth in the triple jump (10.37m) on Friday. She also competed in the javelin throw with an 11th place effort. 

- Trelstad took second overall in the high jump with a top mark of 1.57m. They cleared the bar on their final attempt to earn a runner-up finish.

- Sophia Springer continued to have success in the pole vault with a successful 2.65m mark on her final attempt. 

- Alyssa Zhang was 10th in the triple jump with a best of 9.96m, while Lily Fournier also recorded a top jump of 9.96m. Zhang also earned 14th in the long jump with a 4.71m mark.

The Garnet will return to action this week at the Penn Relays.
