WILMINGTON DE. - Hosting their first and only home event of the 2022-23 season, the Swarthmore golf team competed in day one of the Swarthmore DuPont invitational down in Wilmington, Delaware on Monday, Apr. 10.

Taking on eleven other teams, including Centennial rivals Muhlenberg College and Ursinus College, the Garnet lead the group by the end of day one, scoring in at 307 (+23), five strokes better than second place.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- On an individual level, senior
Gyan Bains leads the way for the Garnet, tying for second overall with a score of 75 (+4), just three strokes behind first place.
- Junior
Ben Lee and first year
Dylan Zhang ended the day tied for fifth, notching a 76 (+5).
- First year
Neil Zhu rounded out the top ten for Swarthmore, finishing tied for eight with a score of 77 (+6).
- Junior
Alex Cheriel, first year
Andy Xin and sophomore
Chad Kemmerer all placed in the teens after the first 18 holes. Cheriel finished 11th at 78 (+7), Xin slotted in at 13th at 79 (+8) and Kemmerer placed 19th at 81 (+10).
- Sophomore
Luis Park, junior
Jackson Murphy and senior
Zack Zawisny also competed for the Garnet, with Park placing 33rd at 84 (+13) and Zawisny and Murphy tying for 39th at 85 (+14).Â
