Retter & Swale Earn Gold to Highlight Successful Opening Day at CC Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. - Swarthmore College women's track & field standouts Adria Retter and Hannah Swale headlined the opening day of the Centennial Championships with a pair of gold medals on Saturday. The Garnet sit in second overall as a team behind Johns Hopkins University. 

Retter broke the program and championship meet record in the weight throw to earn gold in the event, while Swale narrowly missed the program record in the pentathlon with the top score of the meet. 

The Garnet also reached the podium in the 4000m distance medley relay and the 4x800 relay. Quinn Basewitz took home a silver and bronze medal as a member of both relay teams. 

Krystle Boadi beat her previous program record in the 60m dash prelims. The senior earned the third seed entering tomorrow's championship race. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swale won the indoor pentathlon with 2902 points to earn gold for the Garnet. The first-year won the long jump section with a top mark of 4.55m, while earning a top-three finish in all five events. She set personal bests in the 60m hurdles (9.79) and the 800m run (2:39.98). Swale just narrowly missed her program record of 2905 as she stole the show in her championship debut. 

- Retter dominated the field with a championship and program record of 16.31m in the weight throw. The senior unleashed the record-shattering throw on the first attempt, while also recording distances of 16.02m and 15.89m. Retter beat Clay Conley's 2020 program and meet record of 15.85m in the event.

- Swarthmore's distance medley relay reached the podium with a third place finish. The team of Basewitz, Gabby Johnson, Alina Irvine and Olivia Montini earned bronze in the event with a 12:40.55 finish. 

- The Garnet grabbed silver in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:37.08. The team of Morgan Mouer, Basewitz, Johanna Schubert and Rose Teszler ended the opening night as the second Swarthmore women's relay to reach the podium. 

- Boadi qualified for tomorrow's 60m dash finals with a time of 7.94 in the prelims. The effort topped her previous program record and earned the senior a third place effort as she won her heat. 

- Swale qualified for tomorrow's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.80 to set a new personal record. She placed seventh overall in the event.
