HERSHEY, Pa. - The Swarthmore College golf team sits in second place as a team after a remarkable opening to the Centennial Conference Championships on Friday.
Gyan Bains paced the Garnet as he tied for second overall individually in the opening round.
Michael Brown also put together a top-10 effort, while all five Garnet golfers carded scores of 78 or lower on the par-70.Â
ROUND ONE RESULTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bains opened play with a season-low 71 (+1) as he tied for second overall after the opening round. The junior collected a pair of birdies on the afternoon.
- Brown carded a 73 (+3) to tie for seventh overall on the afternoon. The senior ended the afternoon strong with two birdies to shoot one-under-par on the back nine.

Ankur Malik placed just outside the top-10 as he tied for 11th overall. The senior shot a 74 (+4) as he recorded two birdies on the round.

Alex Cheriel rounded out the Garnet scorers with a 76 (+6) to tie for 17th individually.
Ben Lee also carded a 78 (+8) with two birdies on the back nine.Â
