Track & Field Dominates In First Indoor Meet

LANCASTER, Pa. - Competing in their first indoor track and field meet of the season, the Swarthmore women's track and field team put up excellent results at Franklin & Marshall's Diplomat Open on Friday, Dec. 9th.
 
Competing against a number of schools, including Centennial Conference rivals, F&M, Gettysburg and Muhlenberg, the Garnet captured seven events wins, finishing first in: weight throw, shot put, 800m, 3000m, 60m, 200m and 4x400m Relay.


 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Adria Retter came roaring out the gate for the Garnet, dominating in the weight throw to give Swarthmore their first event win of the night. Retter recorded a mark of 15.97m on just her first attempt, setting a new personal best and blowing second place out of the water by over two and a half meters. The senior's performance in the event places her third overall all-time in Swarthmore school history.

- Retter dominated throws on the night, also claiming victory in the shot put. With her winning mark of 13.23m, the Pennsylvania native beat out second place by nearly three meters.

- Moving to the track, senior Rose Teszler and sophomore Morgan Mouer secured a Garnet sweep in the 800m, finishing back-to-back in first and second place respectively. Teszler ran away with the race, finishing with a time of 2:20.43, while Mouer followed up closely behind her teammate at 2:30.07. Additionally, the Garnet saw a fourth place finish from sophomore Gabby Johnson with her time of 2:33.53.

- First year Olivia Montini wracked up another distance win for the Garnet, securing the 3000m crown with her time of 10:55.90. Also finishing high for Swarthmore, senior Madeline Farber came in third while first year Iliana Gomez placed sixth.

- In sprints, the Garnet saw two first place finishes from senior Krystle Boadi, with the New York City native taking the win in both the 60m and the 200m. Boadi captured the 60m with her time of 8.08, a new personal record, while her time of 26.92 ensured the win in the 200m.

- Johanna Schubert was fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:05.71. Trelstad also had a strong showing in the high jump with a 1.55m mark, while Hannah Swale was second in the triple jump (10.58m) and fourth in the long jump (4.84m).

- Wrapping up the meet for the Garnet, the quartet of Boadi, Teszler, Johnson and first year Hanna Garrou took the win in the 4x400m Relay, beating out second place by over six seconds with their time of 4:17.95. 

UP NEXT
Not competing again until next year, the Garnet will travel to TCNJ for the Lions Indoor Invitational Saturday, Jan. 14th, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
