Four Women's Soccer Players Garner All-Region Status

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team earned four United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections, announced Tuesday afternoon. Alice Onyango-Opiyo was awarded first-team status, while Amelia Mounts, Kim Kockenmeister and Emme Hansard garnered third-team recognition.

Onyango-Opiyo earned all-region honors for the second-straight season after earning a third-team selection as a junior. The senior received first-team status as a midfielder this season, while earning her 2021 third-team selection as a defender. The senior duo of Mounts and Kockenmeister were awarded all-region status for the first time in their respective careers after putting together incredible offensive campaigns to lead the Garnet attack. Hansard also earned her first career all-region nod as she established herself as one of the Centennial Conference's top defenders during her sophomore campaign.

As a team, women's soccer finished with a 13-5-1 overall record and a 6-3-1 conference mark. The Garnet showcased exceptional depth and a balanced attack with 14 different players (third all-time) scoring goals, 19 different players (fourth all time) recording points and eight different players scoring game-winning goals. The team also celebrated its 40th Anniversary with 40 goals, which ranks fifth all-time in program history.

Onyango-Opiyo earned her second career All-Centennial selection earlier this offseason as she became the first athlete in 25-years to earn All-Centennial status at two different positions during her career. Onyango-Opiyo started all 19 games this season, while scoring goals in two of the biggest games of the year. Onyango-Opiyo found the back of the net versus #1 Christopher Newport and scored the opening goal in the Centennial Semifinals at Dickinson.

Mounts finished second on the squad with 16 points as she tallied seven goals and two assists on the season. The senior ranked tenth in the Centennial in points and is tied for eighth in goals scored. Mounts started all 19 games for the Garnet and was incredibly consistent throughout the season. She posted a shot in all but two games and recorded goals in seven different contests, which led the team.

Kockenmeister earned All-Centennial honors for the first time in her career as she was awarded first-team recognition. Kockenmeister put together a remarkable senior campaign - leading the team in points and goals while coming off the bench for the majority of games. The senior tallied 21 points on ten goals and one assist to pace the team. Kockenmeister became the team's first double-digit goal scorer since 2018 and only the fifth player to accomplish the feat in the past decade. She ended the season tied for sixth in the conference in goals and ranks seventh in points.

Hansard started all 19 games as she garnered attention as one of the top defenders in the conference. Often marking the team's top attacker, Hansard is incredibly smart on the ball and shows excellent heads up ability on the field. One of her top plays of the season was a defensive save in the 75th minute in a 2-1 victory against #24 Franklin & Marshall, which preserved a conference win for Swarthmore. The sophomore was also honored during the regular season with a Defensive Player of the Week selection.
