INDIANAPOLIS—Swarthmore College sophomore Lilly Price was chosen on Saturday to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The championship runs from May 24-26 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Price is seeded 10th in the 1,500 meters after running a personal best 4:31.71 in the event at Swarthmore's Final Qualifier Meet. Price ran the 1,500m in 5:01.20 in the beginning of April and has since trimmed off nearly 30 seconds in her time. She also won the gold medal in the event at the Centennial Conference Championship. Price will be vying with 21 other runners for a spot as an All-American and will need to finish in the top eight to earn that accolade. Seven other runners also qualified with a seed time of 4:31. The top runner in the field, Emily Richards of Ohio Northern, posted a time of 4:15.77.
This is Price's second time competing on the national stage. As a freshman, she competed in the indoor mile at the NCAA Championship, finishing in 15th place overall.
Swarthmore has some history with the 1500 at the championship. Swarthmore's Katie Jo McMenamin '16 won the national championship in the 1,500m in 2016 with a time of 4:24.33. McMenamin and Sarah Nielsen '16 also competed in the 1,500 in the 2014 NCAA Championship, and Rebecca Hammond '13 competed in the 2013 championship.
