SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Soccer returns to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth season in a row, and for the second time in program history will be hosting the tournament's first two rounds.
The Garnet received an automatic qualifying bid into the tournament after beating Johns Hopkins University 5-1 on Sunday to win the Centennial Conference Championship. Knowing that they already made the tournament, the Garnet were still in the dark about where they would be heading for the opening rounds. On Monday afternoon, the women's soccer team gathered in a classroom in the Science Center to watch the NCAA Selection Show and were ecstatic to find out that they would get to play at the friendly confines of Clothier Field Stadium.
In Swarthmore's pod, the Garnet drew a first-round matchup with the St. Joseph's College of Maine Monks (16-3), champions of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Those two teams will open up the tournament at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Opposite that matchup is a contest between the NYU Violets (10-5-3) and the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins (11-4-4) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The winners of those two games will faceoff in the second round on Sunday at 3 p.m.
