DOWNINGTOWN, Pa.— The Garnet were back out on the greens this past weekend as they finished tied for fifth in the Montgomery Cup at Downingtown Country Club. A strong second round score of 301 (+13), the second best round that day, pushed the Garnet up from their seventh place position after the first round to give them an overall score of 614.
Junior Dan Altieri led the way with the best individual round of the tournament the second day, a 2-under 70. Altieri birdied twice on the front nine and then stayed bogey-free after making the turn to go along with another pair of birdies. Altieri finished the tournament second overall, putting up a combined 146, one stroke off the lead.
Freshman Michael Brown shot a 150 for the Garnet, improving from a 76 the first day to card a 74 in the second round. Nick DiMaio carded a 158 and birdied 8 holes overall. Ankur Malik shot a 79 in the first round and an 80 in the second to finish with a 159 overall. Kevin Zheng shot a 171.
The Garnet are back in action this coming weekend at The Bridges Golf Club when they compete in the McDaniel Mason Dixon Invitational.
