PHILADELPHIA —Swarthmore College Track & Field ran in the Penn Relays, the oldest and largest meet in the US, on Thursday and Friday and excelled on the big stage.
On Thursday night, senior Katie Jo McMenamin obliterated the school record she set a few weeks prior with the top time in all of NCAA Division III in the 5,000-meters this year. McMenamin cut 28 seconds off of her previous record by running the 5,000 in 16:34.99. She finished in sixth overall behind a group of Division I runners.
In the 10,000-meters, Indy Reid-Shaw ran the second-fastest Centennial Conference time of the year, 37:25.6, just 0.38 seconds away from matching the top time. She finished in 19th overall.
Swarthmore Women's Track had relay teams in the 4x100 meters and the 4x400 meters. Anise Charles, Simran Khanna, Lea Slauch and Kayla Camacho ran the 4x100 in 51.09. In the 4x400, Swarthmore's Slauch, Camacho, Kate Hannah and Jen Beltran ran in 4:12.38.
On the men's side, Swarthmore's Spencer Friske ran the 10,000 in 31:27.36, marking the fourth-fastest time in the Centennial this year.
The Garnet's 4x100 team of Zain Hannan, Peter Sayde, Noah Lifset and Saadiq Garba posted a time of 44.85. Garba and Hannan also ran the 400 along with Daniel Belkin and Jordan Reyes and that team finished in fifth in the MAC/ Centennial heat with a time of 3:26.78.
