ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Golf leads the field after day one of the Centennial Conference Championship at The Bridges Golf Club. The Garnet posted a 301 on Friday on the par-72, 6,713-yard layout.
Swarthmore holds a two-stroke lead over Franklin & Marshall College and a three-stroke advantage over McDaniel College.
Junior
Michael Chen carded a 74 (+2) to place him in a tie for second overall. Chen collected an eagle on the par-4 11th hole and birdied on the par-5 fifth and 15th holes. Chen shot par on nine holes and is one stroke off of Muhlenberg's John Froberg for the overall lead.
Vamsi Damerla ended day one a stroke behind Chen for a tie for seventh place. Damerla recorded birdies on four holes to help him overcome a tough go on the 10th hole. He also had par on nine holes.
Nick DiMaio and
Drew Langan posted three birdies en route to a 76 (+4), giving them a share of ninth place. Langan registered an eagle on the 540-yard, par-5 final hole.
Swarthmore's fifth result came from
Dan Altieri who shot an 81 (+9).
Day two begins at 12:40 pm Saturday for Swarthmore.
