RESULTSCHESTER, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Track & Field began the 2016 spring slate in earnest on Friday and Saturday at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University.
The Garnet had two first-place finishes on the day. In the shot put, junior
Maggie O'Neil recorded the top mark of 12.6 meters, a new personal best for her. Senior
Katie Jo McMenamin, back competing on the track for the first time since the 2014 NCAA Championships, zipped to a top time of 4:36.37 in the 1,500-meter run, nearly eight seconds faster than the second-place runner.
The Garnet placed four runners in the top-10 of the 1,500-meters. In addition to McMenamin's first-place grab,
Indy Reid-Shaw finished in fourth with a 4:52.76 clip,
Natalie McLaughlin finished seventh (5:03.06) and
Lili Tobias came in ninth (5:03.96).
Other notable track performances included freshman
Kayla Camacho's fourth-place finish in the 400-meters (1:00.30), and
Kate Hannah and
Jen Beltran finishing in fifth and sixth with times of 2:21.77 and 2:24.01, respectively, in the 800-meters. Those times are all personal bests.
O'Neil, in addition to winning the shot put, placed in third in javelin (30.93 m) and eighth in discus (31.16 m).
Swarthmore sends a few runners to Princeton's Distance Night on Friday and then competes on Saturday at the Osprey Invitational at Stockton University on Saturday.
