SWARTHMORE, Pa.–Members of the Swarthmore College women's track and field team competed at the Villanova Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y. and the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by nearby Ursinus College on Saturday, Feb. 6.
At Villanova, junior
Indy Reid-Shaw smashed the 12-year-old 3000-meter indoor program record by over four seconds in 10:12.98, beating Sarah Hobbs '06's previous mark of 10:17.20.
Sarah Nielsen also finished as the top Division III runner in a deep field of the one-mile run. Her time of 5:01.98 was the 14th-fastest in Division III so far this season and put her 18th among the competition.
Several athletes also had strong showings at the Frank Colden Invitational.
Irina Bukharin placed third in the 3000-meter run in 10:45.09 while
Natalie McLaughlin was sixth in 10:53.71. In the one-mile race, freshman
Lili Tobias finished fifth with a time of 5:22.24 and
Bret Serbin placed second in her heat and 14th overall (5:48.24).
Kate Hannah and
Kenzie Himelein-Wachowiak finished eighth and ninth in the 800-meter race with respective times of 2:25.92 and 2:16.19.
Jenn Beltran placed 11th in the 400-meter dash (1:04.16), just ahead of freshman
Kayla Camacho (1:04.80). Sophomore
Sophie Basalone was 15th in the shot put with a distance of 8.73 meters in their first collegiate track meet.
The team next competes at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Feb. 12-13.
