Indy Reid-Shaw won the one-mile event in a personal-best time of 5:18.5 to headline the Swarthmore College women's track & field team at the Golden Bear Invitational hosted by Kutztown University on Friday, Jan. 15.
Sophomore
Irina Bukharin was fourth in the field of 35 Division II and III runners in the event (5:37.3), just ahead of sixth-place finisher and teammate
Kate Hannah (5:40.4). Junior
Natalie McLaughlin also had a strong showing, placing eighth in 5:46.2.
In the 3000-meter run, senior
Sarah Nielsen came in the third, beating out 25 other competitors with a time of 10:45.24. Sophomore
Lea Slauch took eighth in the 55-meter dash in 7.8 seconds while senior
Katie Lin finished 10th (1:05.05) in a field of 44 runners in the 400-meter dash.
In the field events, freshmen
Rachel Leifield and
Greta Studier tied for fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.44 meters.
The team resumes competition on Thursday, Jan. 28 at the local Widener Invitational in Chester, Pa.
