POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Swarthmore College alumna Michelle Walsh '98 was named the Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Vassar College, as announced by the college on Tuesday, July 28.

Walsh graduated from Swarthmore with a degree in engineering in 1998 and was a three-sport student-athlete in field hockey, basketball, and softball. In field hockey, the Plymouth, N.H. native was named to the All-Centennial Conference First Team as a defender in 1997 and also received recognition as a member of the NFCHA All-Region South Atlantic Second Team.

On the hardwood, Walsh accumulated 191 steals in her career, seventh-most in program history, and served as team captain her senior year. She was also a standout third baseman for the Garnet and still holds the Centennial Conference record for RBI in a season with 52, which she accomplished in 1998. Her .451 career batting average is a program best and ranks second all-time in conference history. Walsh was also named to the All-Centennial Conference First Team in 1996 after finishing with 30 hits, a .380 batting average, and a .570 slugging percentage.

Walsh previously served as the Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at the State University of New York at Geneseo in Geneseo, New York.
