FULL RESULTSWILMINGTON, Del. – The Swarthmore College men's golf team shot 309 in the final round to finish in third place at the Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday, Apr. 27 at the DuPont Country Club.
Franklin & Marshall (307-293-299-899) easily claimed the team title by 19 strokes over runner-up McDaniel (312-303-303-918). Swarthmore was third (318-301-309-928), while Dickinson (318-308-312-946), Muhlenberg (321-313-312-946), Gettysburg (324-315-320-959) and Ursinus (349-329-332-1,010) completed the field on the par-71, 6,763-yard circuit.
The Diplomats won the title due in large part to having three players – Brad Lankler, Robert Svigals and Dave Gilbert - tie for the individual crown after finishing with identical scores of 223. Lankler also claimed rookie of the year honors.
Swarthmore, which was the host school of the annual event, was paced by
Michael Chen. The freshman finished with a three-round total of 227 by carding a 79 in the first round, a 72 in the second and a 76 in today's final round. Junior
Andrew Park (80-75-74-229) was ninth and senior captain
Price Ferchill (80-76-80-236) finished 23rd. Seniors
Jeff Wall (80-81-79-240) and
Sam White (79-78-84-241) placed 21st and 23rd, respectively, to round out the Tornado finishers.
In addition, junior
Amanda Beebe placed eighth at the league's women's championship tournament in Harrisburg. She carded an 88 in the second and final round to finish with a two-day total of 184 on the par-72, 5,820-yard course.
The Swarthmore men's golf program is slated to return eight letterwinners next season.
