Katie Lytle set a new javelin record to lead the Swarthmore College women's track and field team at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Saturday, April 12. In the team scoring meet, the Garnet placed 10th out of 17 teams with 26 points.
Lytle set a new program record in the javelin with her 110' 4" throw, placing third overall. Sophomore
Katie Jo McMenamin placed second overall in the 800-meter run with a 2:15.27 finishing time, followed closely behind by teammate
Indy Reid-Shaw at 2:22.47 for 10
th place out of 49 competitors.
The Garnet broke out in the 1,500-meter run as three harriers recorded personal best marks lead by sophomore
Sarah Nielsen with her eighth-place 4:45.57 time. Senior
Emma Saarel posted a top-20 finish with her 5:02.18 pace, while sophomore
Kate Crowley crossed the line at 5:18.56.
In the field, junior
Osazenoriuwa Ebose placed fourth overall with a toss of 12.60m in the shot put. Freshman
Maggie O'Neil threw 10.67m in the event as well.
Junior
Julia Nee placed eighth in the 400-meter dash with her season-best 59.49 finish.
Freshman
Tess Wei nearly broke her personal-best with her 18:57.51 pace in the 5,000-meter distance to place 11
th overall.
Swarthmore's 4x100-meter relay finished at 51.93 to pick up two team points.
The Garnet competes next at the Gwynedd-Mercy Mid-Week Invitational on Wednesday, April 16.
