CONWAY, S.C. – The Swarthmore College women's track and field team concluded it's spring break outdoor training trip with competing at the Coastal Carolina Inviational held Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16.

Day 1
Junior Julia Nee posted a collegiate-best mark in the 200-meter dash and also competed on the 4x200-meter relay squad to lead the Garnet in the opening day of the invitational.

Nee placed fourth in the 200, which was the Garnet's highest finish of the afternoon, and second among NCAA Division III competitors by hitting the tape in 26.84 seconds at the two-day event. She bettered her previous best mark of 27.01 that was recorded at the Widener Invitational on Apr. 19, 2013. Nee also teamed up with freshman Anise Charles, classmate Katherine Zavez and sophomore Katie Lin to form a 4x200 relay that placed 18th in 1:50.71, which was one of the fastest times in school history.

Other notable performances were made by senior Emma Saarel and sophomore Jenna Cody. Saaral finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run in a collegiate-best time of 5:03.98, which smashed her previous top mark of 5:08.01 that was posted at the Osprey Open on Apr. 5, 2013. Cody notched a 10th-place time of 2:29.67 in the 800.

Day 2
Nee continued her strong opening weekend with her top-25 finish in the 400, crossing the line at 1:01.20, while Lin finished shortly after at 1:01.83.

Sophomore Sarah Nielsen and junior Liz Tawa recorded top-10 finishes in the 3000, which were well ahead of four Centennial Conference competitors. Nielsen hit the tape at 10:38.14 for fourth place overall and Tawa crossed the line at 10:45.20 - a mark over 10 seconds quicker than the next runner - to place eighth. Both times are college best's for the student-athletes.

Nee, Lin, Tawa and Nielsen teamed up for the 4x400 relay, which placed 24th overall, posting a 4:13.84 mark.

Junior thrower Osazenoriuwa Ebose hurled the discus 35.97 meters in her outdoor season-opener. She also tossed the shot put 11.11 meters to place 29th overall.

Swarthmore continues the outdoor season on March 28th for the two-day Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University.
