ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Michael Chen fired a 79 in each round to lead the Swarthmore College golf team to an eighth-place finish among 15 schools at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Sunday, Oct. 5. The Garnet finished with a final score of 642 and improved their team mark by six strokes in the second round at the two-day tournament that was held at the Bridges Golf Club.
Chen tied for 18th individually with a two-round total of 158 to pace the squad at the tournament for the second straight year, while classmate
Drew Langan carded a 159 to finish in a tie for 23rd. Freshman
Yousaf Razvi and junior
Jason Jolliffe recorded marks of 162 and 163, respectively, to round out Swarthmore's team score. Freshman
Brandon Yeung also competed, totaling a 191 on the par 72, 6,713-yard course.
Franklin & Marshall recorded a score of 612 and cruised to the team title by seven strokes over York, which finished in the runner-up position. The Diplomats' Christopher Gabriele won the individual crown by carding a 147.
Swarthmore will next compete at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Monday, Oct. 20 at 12:30 p.m.
