Personal-Bests Highlight the NYC Gotham Cup

NEW YORK - The Swarthmore College women's track and field squad returned to action Friday, January 10 with a trip to the Armory Track & Field Center, competing in the NYC Gotham Cup.

On the track, sophomore Katie McMenamin recorded a personal-best time and ECAC qualifying mark in the 800-meter run with her 2:16.13 third-place pace - finishing ahead of three Centennial Conference opponents and the program's eighth-best finish in history. In the same event, sophomore Katie Lin clocked 2:29.77 for 15th overall. 

Junior Liz Tawa placed seventh in the 1,000-meter run with her personal-best pace of 3:07.44 - shredding nearly seven seconds off her previous best time last winter. Sophomore Sarah Nielsen ran a 5:17.77 mile to place eighth amongst 41 participants for another personal-best and program top-ten performance. 

Senior Emma Saarel paced the 3,000-meter run in 10:51.01 for 11th place. In the 400-meter run, junior Julia Nee clocked 1:03.60, while freshman Lulu Allen-Waller finished at 1:05.82. Sophomore Sophia Frantz competed in her first mile event to finish at 6:16.06. 

The Garnet return to the Armory next weekend for the NYU Saturday Night Shoutout on Saturday, January 18th beginning at 6:30 p.m.
