Caroline Khanna scored her first career goal in the opening half and sophomore
Melissa Trofa factored into a pair of markers to help lead the Swarthmore College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Lasell on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Taylor Field.
Swarthmore (7-4-2) wasted no time finding the scoresheet in their final non-conference match of the season, decisively taking the lead in the fifth minute. Junior
Emma Sindelar converted a through ball from Trofa that met her six yards out, where she promptly finished to right side of the net.
Despite an early setback, Lasell (11-3-1) responded resiliently in the 17th minute with a goal from Erin Smith. The freshman struck home a pass from sophomore Bridget Munnelly to the left side of the goal to even up the scoreline at 1-1.
Undiscouraged, the Garnet came right back at the Lasers with a goal in the 32nd minute to reclaim a 2-1 lead. Khanna headed in a corner kick that was whipped in by senior
Megan Brock for the go-ahead goal.
Later in the 60th minute, Trofa secured the third Garnet goal of the day, and a more comfortable lead, when she finished a through ball from the left side of the box. Trofa converted the fourth and final goal of the afternoon to provide insurance in the Garnet's second straight win.
Swarthmore goalkeeper sophomore
Caela Long started her first match of the season and complemented a strong offensive performance with two saves to pick up her first career victory. Her counterpart, junior Leah Pappalardo of Lasell, finished with seven saves.
The Garnet will have a full week off before visiting conference rival Haverford on Saturday, October 26. Play is slated for 1:00 p.m.
