ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A late first-half goal from sophomore Rehana Omardeen and an outstanding performance from the defense gave the Swarthmore College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Muhlenberg in the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs on Thursday evening from Varsity Field.

With the victory, the No. 5 seed Garnet (12-5-1) moves on to the Centennial Conference semifinals to face No. 1 seed and host Johns Hopkins. Action from Hopkins' Homewood Field is set to begin at noon on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Freshman Reba Magier was flawless in net for the Garnet, making a career-best nine saves to preserve the win. She was at her best in the first half, as she made six saves in the first stanza to help the Garnet survive an early push from the Mules.

Omardeen netted the game-winning goal with just 15 seconds remaining in the first half. The sophomore forward was in the right place at the right time as the seconds ticked away in the first half, as she collected a loose ball off a saved shot from sophomore Emma Sindelar and scored, putting the Garnet ahead right before the half.

In the second half, the Mules continued to apply the pressure - firing off nine shots and three on goal - but the Swat defense stood firm. Down the stretch, Muhlenberg was only able to get off two shots in the final 10 minutes, including just one on target from from Alyssa Meola in the 83rd minute. 

The win is the Garnet's first in the Centennial Conference playoffs since 2006.

Sindelar led the Garnet offense with three shots, two of which were on goal - including the assist on Omardeen's score.

The Mules finished with an advantage in shots (18-8) and corners (12-4).

The Garnet will continue its quest for a Centennial title when it travels to Baltimore to faceJohns Hopkins on Saturday at noon.
