SWARTHMORE, Pa. - One hundred and ten minutes was not enough for rivals Swarthmore and Haverford, as the Garnet and Fords women's soccer teams played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field Stadium.

With the draw, the Garnet (11-5-1) assured itself a spot in the Centennial Conference First Round game, which will be played mid-week. The Garnet's opponent and the location of the game is dependent on the result of tonight's Muhlenberg-Ursinus match.

Despite the zeros on the scoreboard, the match - played before a large and boisterous crowd for Garnet Weekend and Senior Day - was quite entertaining. While the Fords (12-3-2, 6-2-2) had more scoring chances, the Garnet more than held its own and had a chance to win it until the final whistle.

The Fords' best scoring chance of the first half came in the 15th minute, when what apperaed to be a Haverford goal was waved off due to offsides. The Garnet answered back with two scoring chances of its own, as shots from senior Ariana Spiegel (19th minute) and junior Aly Passanante (25th minutes) were both saved.

The near misses continued for each side throughout the second half. In the 61st minute, Haverford's Meg Boyer struck the crossbar on an easy sitter, keeping the match scoreless. In the 68th minute, sophomore Emma Sindelar has an equally opportune scoring chance, as she dribbled around an out-of-position Haverford 'keeper but couldn't get off a clean shot.

In overtime, play opened up on both ends but neither side was able to find the game-winner. In the 108th minute, Swarthmore nearly won it on a Haverford miscue, but a would-be own goal from the Fords hit a Garnet defender before going in the net.

In goal for the Garnet, freshman Reba Magier made a career-best eight saves.

Before the game, the program honored its five seniors - Spiegel, Haley Most, Mariam Vonderheide, Cassie Strawser and Beth Martin.

The Garnet will learn its playoff opponent and the location of the first-round playoff game on Monday.
