Tate Wasson Elevated to Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Coordinator

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse program has announced the elevation of Tate Wasson to full-time defensive coordinator. Wasson enters his third season with the Garnet after previously serving as the team's coach for face-off specialists and defensive midfielders.

Wasson assumes the role of full-time assistant coach, succeeding his brother, after helping guide Swarthmore to back-to-back Centennial Conference Tournament appearances and a 23-13 overall record during his first two seasons on staff.

"We are excited to elevate Tate to defensive coordinator," said head coach Pat Gress. "After five stellar playing seasons at the University of Delaware and two seasons coaching the Swarthmore face-off specialists and defensive midfielders, Tate is the perfect candidate to succeed his brother Sam in the coordinator position."

The Garnet defense has been a cornerstone of the program's success, finishing among the top three in the Centennial Conference in goals-against average in each of the past three seasons. Last year, Swarthmore allowed just 9.38 goals per game, the third-lowest mark in the conference. Under Wasson's guidance, the Garnet also led the Centennial in faceoff percentage at .597.

Prior to joining the Swarthmore staff, Wasson was a standout defender at the University of Delaware, helping lead the Blue Hens to a CAA championship and NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2022 and 2023. He earned a bachelor's degree in sport management and a master's degree in international business, while being named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll from 2020-23.

A five-year starter on defense, Wasson was selected as a 2020 Freshman All-American and later served as a team captain.
