PHILADELPHIA – The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team had three student-athletes selected to the Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Team on Tuesday. In addition,
Clay Almgren was chosen the Academic All-Area Performer of the Year.
Almgren was joined on the squad by teammates
Jack McHenry and
Drew Tyson. It was the second career selection for Tyson. The team is voted on by the athletic communications offices of the institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Almgren was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season and received All-America honorable mention from the USILA and USA Lacrosse Magazine. The senior earned his second consecutive All Centennial First Team honor, the third all-conference award of his career, and led the Garnet in points (85) and assists (37) while finishing second on the team in goals (48). Almgren was the conference leader in points, second in goals, and third in assists. He graduates as the program's all-time leader in goals (145) and points (262) while ranking second in assists (117).
McHenry won 265 face-offs with a .650 win percentage. He collected 166 ground balls and his ground ball and face-off win totals set new Swarthmore single-season records. The junior ranked 15
th in the nation in ground balls per game and 33
rd in face-off win percentage. McHenry had a season-high 22 face-off wins twice and collected a season-best 18 ground balls versus Messiah University. He already owns the Garnet's all-time face-off wins record with 548.
Tyson went 11-8 with a program-record 236 saves in the cage. He ranked 24
th in Division III in save percentage (.588). The 2024 Centennial Defensive Player of the Year produced a season-high 22 saves at Muhlenberg College in the conference tournament. He represented the Garnet at the USILA Senior All-Star Game. Tyson ends his career with 638 saves, good for third on the program's all-time list.
The trio helped Swarthmore go 11-8, reach the Centennial semifinals, and earn a national ranking for five weeks during the campaign.
