LANCASTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore College softball team swept the Centennial Conference weekly honors on Tuesday with
Avery McClure and
Lilly Goldberg winning the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards respectively.
McClure batted .500 (6-for-12) with a 1.538 OPS in a 3-1 week for the Garnet. She totaled two home runs, four RBIs, a walk, and four runs. The senior recorded a hit in all four contests while both driving in and scoring a run in three of them. McClure opened the week by going 3-for-7 at the plate with one RBI and one run in a doubleheader split at Neumann. She then went 3-for-5 with two homers, a walk, three RBIs, and three runs in a conference-opening sweep of Muhlenberg. Her two-run homer in the fourth proved to be the difference in game one in a 3-1 victory. McClure had the crucial hit again in the nightcap, blasting a go-ahead solo shot in the fifth in a 2-1 triumph. They were the first career long-balls for the senior.
Goldberg won both of her starts during the week, posting a 1.08 ERA. She conceded just two earned runs, struck out seven in 13.0 innings, and allowed opposing batters to hit just .186 against her. The sophomore opened the week by going six innings and allowing two runs, one earned, and two hits in a victory at Neumann. Goldberg fanned six in the 7-2 win. She then tossed a complete game in the conference-opening doubleheader with Muhlenberg, giving up just one run in a 3-1 triumph.
Swarthmore is back in action on Tuesday at Franklin and Marshall College.
