MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Swarthmore College men's track & field team got off to an excellent start to its outdoor season, opening the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge with a pair of top-five performances on Friday.
Cohen Manges recorded the top result of the day, finishing as the runner-up in the 5000m run. Wyatt Fell also had an excellent debut with a fourth-place finish in the javelin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Manges finished as the runner-up in the 5000m collegiate race. The junior raced to a personal record with a time of 15:03.12, beating his previous best by a couple seconds.
Spencer Etheridge also put together a strong showing, finishing 13th overall at 15:42.34.
- Fell had an impressive debut in the collegiate javelin throw, unleashing a top distance of 53.95m. The throw earned him fourth overall and ranks 10th in program history.
- Noah St. George ran an 11.27 in the 100m collegiate prelims. He finished 39th overall out of 84 competitors.
- Jackson Mejia and Aidan Corpus both recorded heights in the pole vault. Mejia cleared the bar at 3.80m on his second attempt, while Corpus maxed out at 3.65m. The duo grabbed eighth and tenth, respectively.
- Jean Michel Irankunda ran a personal best of 54.63 in the 400m open. The sophomore set a personal record of over a second, placing fourth of 14 runners.
