Wilson Leads Strong Performance at CC Championships Day Two

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team had another strong showing on the second day of the Centennial Championship on Friday. The team captured one gold and a bronze medal.

Cami Wilson had the big performance of the evening, winning the 50 freestyle for the second-straight year. The senior set a program record, while outperforming the NCAA B cut. 

Wilson helped the Garnet capture their second medal of the night in the 400 medley relay. Swarthmore earned bronze in the event, but took down its program record while besting the NCAA B cut. 

The Garnet currently sit in third place with 224 points. Johns Hopkins controls first place with 343.5, while Gettysburg trails at 234. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dylan Herink finished 6th overall in the 200 IM final with a time of 1:51.16. The junior moved to fifth all-time in program history. Nolan Weygandt also qualified for the finals, where he placed eighth with a 1:54.55 mark. The rookie swam his way into the top-10 with a time of 1:52.52 in the prelims, posting the program's seventh-fastest time. 

- Wilson captured gold in the 50 freestyle for the second-straight season. The senior medaled in the event for the fourth time with a program record of 20.03. He took two-tenths of a second off his previous program record, while outperforming last season's NCAA invite time. Wilson's mark currently sits inside the top-15 nationally. 

- Luke Magnuson qualified for the 50 freestyle finals, grabbing sixth place at 20.70. The senior moved into sixth all-time in program history after climbing to eighth all-time in the prelim session. Levi Tipton also shuffled around the all-time leaderboard with personal-best swims in both the prelims and consolation race. The sophomore placed second in the consolation at 20.79, tying for eighth all-time. 

- The 400 medley relay of Wilson, Herink, Magnuson and Sean Neirynck earned a bronze medal in a competitive field of elite swimmers. The Garnet finished with a program record of 3:16.88, and were the third relay to finish below the NCAA B cut. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet return to the pool tomorrow afternoon. The opening session begins at 10 a.m. with the finals slated for 6 p.m.
