LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team won a pair of medals to open the first night of the Centennial Conference Championships on Thursday evening. The Garnet won silver in the 200 medley relay, while setting a program record, and secured bronze in the 800 freestyle relay.
Danny Castle was a member of both relay squads, as the junior added two more medals to his career total. Fellow senior Luke Magnuson captured his first career medal along with rookies Sean Neirynck, Jack Boerner and Matthew Kim.
Cami Wilson led off the record-breaking 200 medley relay with an individual milestone in the 50 backstroke. The senior opened the race with a 22.16 split to achieve a new program record.
The men currently sit in second place after the first two events. Johns Hopkins leads the way with 116 points, while Swarthmore follows in second with 94 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The men opened the championships with a runner-up performance in the 200 medley relay. Dylan Ling, Wilson, Castle, and Magnuson combined for a time of 1:28.63, placing them less than a second behind the Johns Hopkins team. The men outswam the NCAA B Cut, while setting a new program record and beating the previous Centennial record. The Swarthmore relay swam its way into the top-15 nationally.
- The 800 freestyle relay of Neirynck, Boerner, Kim and Castle earned bronze with a time of 6:41.00. The team recorded the second-fastest mark in program history, missing the record by less than two seconds. The swim currently ranks inside the top-15 nationally.
- The Garnet placed second overall in both consolation finals.

Nolan Weygandt finished at 1:31.21 in the 200 medley relay, while
Mateo Smith,
Sam Peterson,
Benton Greenberg and
Jaime Taylor posted a 6:51.60 effort in the 800 freestyle relay.

The Garnet return to the pool tomorrow afternoon. The opening session begins at 10 a.m. with the finals slated for 6 p.m.
