KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Swarthmore College women's soccer team improved to No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, released on Tuesday afternoon. The Garnet jumped two spots for the second-straight week and have been nationally-ranked in all four weeks to begin the regular season.
The Garnet hold a 7-1-2 overall record after rallying for four-straight victories. After opening Centennial Conference play with a victory at No. 24 Johns Hopkins, the Garnet continued their conference success with wins over Bryn Mawr College, 2-0, and Franklin & Marshall College, 1-0. Swarthmore also added on a non-conference win over Mount Aloysius College, 2-0, to post its third-consecutive shutout victory.
Ava Gizzie has played a massive role in the team's recent success, scoring six goals in the previous five games. The junior has scored in five-straight games, while her team has enjoyed a 4-0-1 record during the stretch.
This weekend, Swarthmore hosts McDaniel College in a pivotal conference match up between two of the Centennial's top programs. The Garnet are currently one of two unbeaten teams in the Centennial with Dickinson College also sitting at 3-0.
