COLORADO SPRINGS – The Swarthmore College field hockey team was ranked 22
nd in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Preseason Top 25 Poll released on Tuesday. It is the second year in a row in which the Garnet will enter the campaign with a national ranking.
Swarthmore looks to improve upon its 11-9 record from a season ago and make a deep run in the Centennial Conference Tournament. The Garnet boasted a competitive schedule in 2024, taking on 10 nationally-ranked opponents, and they will do so again this year as Swarthmore battles two nationally-ranked squads in its first three contests.
The Garnet bring back eight starters from last year's team.
Sarah Cooper and
Amelia Landry are Swarthmore's top returners as the pair tallied 11 points apiece in 2024.
Hannah Ulrich produced a strong rookie year, totaling 10 points. All three players potted four goals on the season.
Gabriella Vasquez also scored four goals and finished with eight points.
Kayla Fink started all 20 games in the midfield and was named the Centennial Rookie of the Year.
Cassandra Conklin returns for her senior season in the Garnet cage. The goalkeeper went 10-8 with a 1.49 goals against average, compiling 53 saves and five shutouts.
Swarthmore opens the season on the road at Wellesley College on Friday.
