Field Hockey Falls in Close Battle with No. 7 Babson

WELLESLEY, Mass. - The No. 22 Swarthmore College field hockey team was dealt its first loss of the season at No. 7 Babson College on Sunday afternoon, 2-1. A goal by Amelia Landry kept Swarthmore close but the Garnet fell to finish their opening weekend with a 1-1 record. 

Swarthmore opened the scoring with seconds left in the first quarter when Landry found the back of the net off a Liza Semenenko corner shot. The Beavers then tied the game late in the second quarter. Babson would then go on to score on a penalty stroke in the fourth, giving the Beavers a 2-1 win. 

The Garnet totaled six corner chances in the win while conceding just three defensively. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- With 14 seconds left in the opening quarter, Swarthmore earned its first penalty corner and Landry tipped in Semenenko's shot to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead.

- After a back-and-forth second quarter, Babson found the back of the net 30 seconds before halftime to tie the game at one.
 
- Swarthmore earned three penalty corners in the third but failed to score, keeping the game deadlocked heading into the fourth.

- Only a few minutes into the fourth, Babson drew a penalty stroke and converted to take the 2-1 advantage that the Garnet were not able to overcome.
