LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team had two players named Scholar All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association this week.
Seniors Samuel Ginsberg and Henry Kolyer both received the prestigious honor for the Garnet. To earn Scholar All-America accolades, a student-athlete must be a senior and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. They must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league/conference player.
Ginsberg was Swarthmore's top defensive midfielder and was an All-America honorable mention. He helped the Garnet rank 14th in scoring defense (8.12) and 33rd in man-down defense (.778). Ginsberg collected 26 ground balls and registered 10 caused turnovers, which was tied for second on the team. Ginsberg posted season highs of five ground balls against Ursinus College and two caused turnovers twice.
Kolyer helped lead a Garnet defensive unit that ranked first in the conference in man-down defense (.778) and second in opponent clear percentage (.787) and scoring defense (8.12). The senior totaled 26 ground balls and tied for second on the team with 10 caused turnovers. He was an All-Centennial second-team selection for Swarthmore.
The senior duo helped lead the Garnet to one of its most successful four-year stretches in program history. Swarthmore combined for a 50-19 record over four winning seasons, making three Centennial Tournament appearances, two NCAA Tournament appearances and appearing in the USILA National Rankings for 28 weeks.
In addition, the Garnet received the USILA Team Academic Award for boasting a team GPA of 3.00 or higher.
