LANCASTER, Pa. – Swarthmore College's
Clay Almgren was chosen the Centennial Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year and was one of seven Garnet players named to the All-Centennial Team, the conference office announced on Wednesday morning.
Almgren is the third straight Swarthmore athlete to win the top offensive honor, following
Von Mabbs (2023) and
Carter Strauch (2024). He was also selected to the All-Centennial First Team. It is Almgren's second consecutive All-Centennial honor.
The All-Centennial Second Team included
Michael Hardiman,
Rex Mabbs,
Matthew Martinez,
Samuel Ginsberg,
Henry Kolyer, and
Drew Tyson. Hardiman, Mabbs, Ginsberg, Kolyer, and Tyson were all recognized for the second year in a row. In addition,
Will Kelly was Swarthmore's representative on the Centennial All-Sportsmanship Team.
Almgren led the Garnet with 79 points, tied for fourth all-time, and 41 assists and he was second with 38 goals. He was the conference leader in points, second in assists, and fourth in goals. Almgren scored three or more goals seven times this year and tallied five or more points on 11 occasions. The junior recorded a career-high six assists and nine points versus Elizabethtown College and tied his career best with five goals at Ursinus College. Almgren was named the Centennial Offensive Player of the Week three times.
Hardiman ranked first on Swarthmore and in the conference with 51 goals, which equaled his total from last year and is tied for second in program history. The senior added 11 assists for a total of 62 points, which ranked fourth in the Centennial. Hardiman netted three or more goals in nine games with a career-high seven tallies against Eastern University.
Mabbs was second on the squad in assists (21), fourth in points (37), and sixth in goals (16). He also totaled 18 ground balls and four caused turnovers from the midfield spot. Mabbs produced multiple assists in eight contests with a career-high four at Haverford College.
Martinez was the Garnet's top face-off man, going 155-for-230 for a program-record .674 win percentage. He also led the team in ground balls (87) and finished as the career face-off win percentage record holder (.607). Martinez posted double-digit face-off wins five times this season.
Ginsberg was Swarthmore's top defensive midfielder, helping the Garnet rank second in the conference in scoring defense (8.12). He collected 26 ground balls and registered 10 caused turnovers, which was tied for second on the team. Ginsberg posted season highs of five ground balls against Ursinus College and two caused turnovers twice.
Kolyer led a Garnet defensive unit that ranked first in the conference in man-down defense (.778) and second in opponent clear percentage (.787) and scoring defense (8.12). The senior totaled 26 ground balls and tied for second on the team with 10 caused turnovers.
The 2024 Centennial Defensive Player of the Year, Tyson set a new single-season program record with 204 saves this season. His .667 save percentage ranks fifth all-time. The junior was the conference leader in saves and save percentage and second in goals against average (7.63). Tyson made double-digit stops 13 times with a career-high 20 saves twice.
Swarthmore finished with a 12-5 record and advanced to the Centennial Semifinals for the third straight season.
