GENEVA, OH - Swarthmore College track & field standout
Hannah Swale kicked off competition at the NCAA National Championships on Thursday afternoon, completing the first four events of the heptathlon. The junior currently sits in 17th place overall, just one spot shy of All-American status.
Swale battled rainy conditions to open the day with a 19th-place finish in the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 15.62 seconds. She followed that with a strong performance in the high jump, tying her personal record of 1.54 meters to place 15th. She cleared the mark on her first attempt but was unable to surpass it.
Her best showing of the day came in the shot put, where she placed fifth overall with a throw of 10.99 meters on her first attempt. She finished just shy of a personal best. Swale then closed out the afternoon with the 200m dash, finishing 19th with a time of 26.92 seconds.
Swale will look to finish strong on Friday as she competes in her final three events: the long jump, javelin throw, and 800m run. Competition resumes at 11:00 a.m.
