Women’s Swimming Celebrates Milestones at Swat Invite

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 9 Swarthmore College women's swimming team put a bow on the regular season with its home Swat Invite on Friday and Saturday.

The Garnet combined for seven lifetime best swims on the weekend. Marin Norlander, Sophie Rodner and Madeline Fox all earned a pair of best swims, while Ryleigh Vallejo added to the total with one. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
FRIDAY SESSION

- Rodner paced a quartet of Swarthmore swimmers with a time of 24.87 in the 50 freestyle. Ursula Horn tied her college best at 25.07 to grab a runner-up finish. Marin Norlander (25.35) raced to a season best, while Vallejo (26.40) followed with a lifetime best. Norlander also swam to a lifetime best in the 100 backstroke at 59.25.

- Cindy Wang and Fox both posted noteworthy swims in the 200 IM. Wang touched with a collegiate best of 2:11.28, while Fox recorded a season best at 2:12.62.   

- Vallejo and Adams-Miller pushed each other in a competitive 200 freestyle. Vallejo touched first at 2:01.62, while Adams-Miller was a tenth of a second behind at 2:01.74. Adams-Miller achieved a season best in the event. 

- Rodner earned a lifetime best in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.47. Horn followed with a season best of 54.48.

SATURDAY MORNING SESSION
- Rodner touched first in the 100 butterfly time trial with a 58.10 finish, while Norlander followed with a time of 1:01.49. Rodner achieved a lifetime best in the event. 

- Vallejo and Adams-Miller each recorded season bests in the 500 freestyle. Vallejo finished at 5:22.21, while Adams-Miller posted a time of 5:34.34. 

- Fox recorded a season best of 4:51.33 in the 400 IM. Horn then closed out the session with a season best in the 200 freestyle at 1:58.37.

SATURDAY NIGHT SESSION
- Norlander raced to a season best in the 200 backstroke. Norlander touched first with a time of 2:10.56, while Adams-Miller trailed at 2:16.21. 

- Horn raced to a college best in the 500 freestyle. The senior touched the wall at 5:19.39 to take a couple seconds off her previous best. 

- Rodner narrowly missed her lifetime best by a few tenths of a second with a time of 24.69 in the 50 freestyle. The senior posted a collegiate best in the event to cap off her final individual competition at Swarthmore.  

- Vallejo posted a season best in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:45.96. Adams-Miller also competed in the event with a time of 18:55.71. Vallejo also had a season-best split in the 1000 freestyle. 

- Fox achieved a lifetime best in the 200 breaststroke. The sophomore touched at 2:29.19 to improve their best time by a couple tenths of a second.  

- The Garnet saw a trio of milestone times in the mixed 200 medley relay. Norlander had a lifetime best in the 50 back, while Fox had a lifetime best in the 50 breast. Horn also achieved a college best in the 50 free.

The Garnet look to capture their fourth-straight Centennial Conference Championship with the opening of the championships on Thursday, February 20 at Franklin & Marshall College.
