Women’s Swimming Sweeps Gold, Collins Breaks Centennial Record

LANCASTER, Pa. - The No. 9 Swarthmore College women's swimming team continued to roll through its competition with another gold medal sweep on Friday night. The men's and women's teams became the first duo in recent history to sweep every gold medal in a session at the Centennial Championships.

Ava Craig, Quinn Weygandt and Genine Collins all won individual gold medals. Collins headlined the night with the first sub-23-second 50 freestyle time in Centennial Conference history. The sophomore defended her conference title, while improving on her conference record. Craig also earned her first individual medal with a program record in the 500 freestyle.

Swarthmore maintained its relay dominance with another sweep in the 400 medley relay. The Garnet have won the championship and consolation heats in all three relays thus far.

The Garnet expanded their lead over Gettysburg College as they sit comfortably in first place with 379 points. The Bullets have 303 points, while Franklin & Marshall remains a distant third with 173 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After winning last season's 500 freestyle consolation final, Craig won the entire event with a program record of 4:59.59. Hallmark followed with a silver medal at 5:01.75 to claim the top-two finishes for Swarthmore. Craig overtook Hallmark's program record by a couple hundredths of a second. She swam under the NCAA B cut in both the prelims and finals. Lauren Rohde (5:02.11) and Mackenzie Tucker (5:08.45) also qualified for the finals with finishes of fourth and sixth, respectively. Rodhe finished a tenth-of-a-second short of a Swarthmore medal sweep. However, the senior climbed to fourth all-time on the program's leaderboard after a two-second personal record. Tucker entered the all-time leaderboard at tenth.

- Georgi Mathews came from behind to win the 500 freestyle consolation finals in spectacular fashion. The senior chased down the leader on her final lap to touch a tenth of a second before her Gettysburg challenger. Mathews finished with a season-best of 5:08.45 to finish seven seconds faster than her prelim time.

- Weygandt took home gold in the 200 IM for the third-straight season. The junior finished at 2:04.14 to finish under the NCAA B cut in both the prelims and finals. Weygandt finished within a second of her conference record, which was set at last season's championships. Cara Dominici (2:06.70) and Norah Rutkowski (2:06.71) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Dominici moved into third all-time in program history, while Rutkowski moved to fifth. Annaliese Chen rounded out Swarthmore's championship finalists with a seventh-place swim at 2:07.63.

- Collins defended her 50 freestyle championship in style with a conference record of 22.88. The sophomore recorded the first sub-23 second time in Centennial history and currently holds the fourth-fastest time in the country. Elle Anthony (23.45) claimed silver for the second-straight season as she swam under the NCAA B cut in both the prelims and finals. Erin Szuromi also competed in the finals with a time of 24.15 to place seventh.

- The Garnet continued to tally points in the 50 freestyle with the top-two finishes in the consolation final. Ainsley Jane Tambling led the way with a time of 24.16, while Mirabel Fernald followed at 24.34. Fernald moved into ninth all-time in program history.

- Swarthmore continued its relay dominance with a sweep in the 400 medley championship and consolation heats. The team's top relay of Szuromi, Sophie Rotival, Rutkowski and Collins captured the program's fourth-straight gold medal in the event with a time of 3:46.84. The quartet finished under the NCAA B cut, but narrowly missed the conference record by one second. The team rose to second all-time in program history.

- The 400 medley B relay of Maya Ambardekar, Dominici, Chen and Craig also moved into the program's top-10 with a victory in the consolation heat. The team posted a mark of 3:50.22 to place seventh on the leaderboard. The team finished below the NCAA B cut.
