Saunders competes in 60m hurdles finals at F&M

Men’s Track & Field Impresses in Indoor Debut

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's track & field team opened the indoor season at the Diplomat Open on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- James Saunders raced his way into the 60m hurdle finals with a time of 8.80 in the prelims, posting the third fastest mark. He ended up securing fifth in the finals at 8.81.

- Rishi Tella grabbed fourth overall in the long jump with a measurement of 6.46m. Archer Manning also placed inside the top-10, recording a mark of 6.23m to earn eighth. 

- Fresh off cross country season, Matthew Fleming opened his indoor campaign with a fifth-place effort in the 5000m run. The junior crossed the finish line at 15:39.71, while running in the top heat. 

- Handuo Sun took sixth place in the 3000m run, racing to a 9:39.13 finish in his track debut. 

- Jackson Mejia recorded an eighth-place finish in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared a top mark of 3.85m to set a new personal best. Mejia coasted through his first five heights, clearing the bar on all first attempts. 

- Noah St. George placed eighth in the high jump with a top mark of 1.80m. He was followed by Alan Nichols, who recorded a personal best of 1.75m to finish in 14th overall. 

- Ryan Scott won his heat in the 800m run with a time of 2:05.63 to place 14th overall in the field. Logan Rose also competed in the same heat, earning a personal record in the event at 2:07.95. 

- Jacob Tavarez placed 18th overall out of 71 runners in the 200m dash. The rookie posted a time of 23.88 to finish inside the top-20.
