GREENWOOD, Ind. – A pair of Swarthmore College men's soccer players were chosen to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.
Jackson Haynes and
Len Yamabe received the honor for the Garnet. It was the second straight selection for Yamabe.
To be eligible for Academic All-District accolades, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, appear in 90 percent of their team's contests or start in at least 66 percent, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. The Academic All-District Team is part of the Academic All-America program, which is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across college sports.
Haynes started all 17 contests on the back line and led a Garnet defense that ranked sixth in the Centennial Conference in goals against average and registered five shutouts. He also tallied two goals at the offensive end. Haynes was an All-Centennial Second Team recipient.
Yamabe was an All-Centennial Second Team honoree after recording two goals, three assists, and seven points in 14 games. He scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory versus the University of Redlands. The junior was the top offensive threat for Swarthmore, leading the team with 39 shots on the year. His average of 2.79 shots per game ranked third in the conference.
Swarthmore finished the season with a 5-6-6 record.
